Lovell FHCC Earns Top Performer Joint Commission Recognition
Joint Commission Gold Key Top Performer Recognition for Heart Failure and Pneumonia Key Quality Measures
Lovelll FHCC receives the Joint Commission Gold Key Top Performer Recognition for Key Quality Measures in Heart Failure and Pneumonia.

The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures today by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America.

The facility was recognized based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma.

“The Lovell FHCC is very proud to be named on the list of The Joint Commission’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures,” said Patrick L. Sullivan, Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center Director. “I believe our success can be attributed to our staff and their focus on our patients. Our staff understands the unique needs of our veteran and military population and we never lose focus on what matters most to our patients: safe, effective care with an emphasis on patient satisfaction.”

From the 3,099 hospitals and critical access hospitals in the nation submitting accountability measurement data to The Joint Commission, the Lovell FHCC is one of only 405 to earn the distinction of top performer on key quality measures. They are also one of two facilities in Lake County, Ill, to earn the distinction. Inclusion on the list is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the previous calendar year.

“Today, the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care, and The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care,” said Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission.

The Lovell FHCC was recognized for achieving these thresholds for heart failure and pneumonia through 2010 data sent as the former North Chicago VA Medical Center, prior to the facility’s Oct. 1, 2010, integration between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense.

“This is a tremendous honor and truly recognizes the exceptional work our integrated staff accomplishes,” said U.S. Navy Capt. David Beardsley, Lovell FHCC Deputy Director. “As the nation’s first VA/DoD federal health care center, we are continually refining our processes to ensure we always deliver excellent care to every patient, every time -- and this recognition is a reflection of that.”

In addition to being included in today’s release of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report at www.jointcommission.org/annualreport, the Lovell FHCC will be recognized on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check Web site (www.qualitycheck.org).
