Audiology / Speech Pathology Clinic
The Audiology & Speech Pathology Clinic conducts comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation of patients with speech, language, swallowing, hearing, and balance disorders. Clinicians determine the need for hearing aids or other assistive communication devices, provide them as needed, and instruct patients on their use and maintenance.
Audiology Services provided include:
- Hearing aid evaluation/fittings
- Retiree At Cost Hearing Aid Program (RACHAP)
- Pediatric evaluations
- Comprehensive vestibular evaluations
- Central Auditory Processing evaluations
- Tinnitus Management
Speech Pathology Services provided include:
- Diagnosis of speech, language and swallowing disorders
- Treatment of speech, language and swallowing disorders
- Telespeech services
Appointment for complete hearing exam, hearing aid assessment, balance disorder evaluation, as well as speech, language, or swallowing issues are scheduled upon receipt of a consultation.
Speech Pathology Clinic: Speech Therapy services are scheduled on an individual, as needed basis upon the clinicians’ recommendations. Speech therapy services are provided at North Chicago, and in some cases via tele-health.
Audiology Clinic: Hearing aid issuance, adjustments, programming, etc are scheduled within the Audiology Clinic upon request of the Audiologist on an as needed basis. Appointments are available at the North Chicago location, McHenry Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) , Kenosha CBOC, and Evanston CBOC. Please note that all audiology appointments provided at the Evanston CBOC are via tele-health.
Hearing aid issuance, adjustments, programming updates, etc. are scheduled within the Audiology Clinic upon request of the Audiologist and on an as needed basis. This is normally held within the main FHCC Audiology Clinic; however; appointments are available at the Kenosha CBOC and the Tele-Audiology option is available for patients that normally go to the McHenry CBOC or Evanston CBOC for their primary care. Talk to your hearing specialist if this might be a good fit for you.
All appointments are scheduled through the Audiology/Speech Pathology main clinic at 224-610-3759. Once you call, please specify the location you would like to be seen.
Audiology Hearing Aid Repair Clinic
Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30am to 10:30 (walk-in); Friday 1:00-2:00pm (by appointment only)
FHCC North Chicago offers same day hearing aid repairs for MINOR hearing aid problems during the morning hearing aid repair clinic. Monday-Friday the clinic is from 8:30-10:30am and patients are welcome to walk in without an appointment. For those that cannot make the morning clinic, we offer a Friday afternoon hearing aid repair clinic by appointment. Patients will be seen in the order of arrival and by the type of problem; therefore, wait times will vary and could be up to 45 minutes.
Please note: Due to rotating clinic schedules, providers staffing the clinic will vary daily. If the patient would prefer to see a specific provider, please call to schedule an appointment with that provider.
The walk in repair clinic is at the North Chicago location. To have hearing aids repaired at the CBOC, there are three options: 1) Drop the aid off at a CBOC (see information below), 2) Mail the aid to North Chicago, or 3) schedule an appointment with an audiologist at the CBOC.
Drop Off/Mail in Hearing Aid Repairs: Patients may also drop off or mail their hearing aids for repair. The McHenry, Evanston, Kenosha, and North Chicago locations have drop off bins. If you chose to mail your aid, please mail to FHCC, Attn: Audiology (126), 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064 Once the hearing aids are repaired, the patient can come in to pick them up during the hearing aid repair clinic hours listed above, or have them mailed to their address.
Hearing Aid Battery Reorder Information
- Summit VA Form 2346 (blue card)
- Phone order – Call 303-273-6200 to reach the automated battery reorder line. Select option 1 to place an order or speak with a customer service representative.
- Email firstname.lastname@example.org If ordering through email you will need to provide your full name, current mailing address, hearing aid serial numbers, and other information on the VA Form 2346 along with the items you wish to order.
Community Based Outpatient Clinic Audiology Services
Hearing exams and hearing aid services are available at the Kenosha, McHenry, and Evanston (tele-audiology) CBOCs. We recommend that the patient call the main FHCC Audiology Clinic (224-610-3759) to schedule, and specify the location he/she would like to be seen.
Hearing Screening for school children are scheduled with the Family Practice Clinic.
Earwax removal can be provided through Primary Care, Audiology or Ear, Nose, Throat Clinics. The ENT Department provides walk in hours for ear cleaning Tuesday 8am to Noon, and Tues/Thurs 1:00-2:30pm. Please note that a $50 copay may apply for specialty clinic care.
